The First Step

This freebie is a great resource for helping your student get ready for 1st grade. I also offer a phonics guide for parents to understand how to help their child learn to read these words if they are having some difficulty.

The phonics guide is meant for parents to get a basic understanding of phonics and what your student should know or begin to know during Pre-K and Kindergarten. The phonics progression begins with letter sounds, identifying letter names, associating beginning sounds with words and more.

By the end of Kindergarten, students should be beginning to blend together 2 to 3 letter sounds to read simple decodeable words, such as "C-A-T" and identifying all or most of their letter sounds.

This short guide is a great place to start, but often the best learning for phonics needs to be done through hearing sounds correctly and practiced through speech (No, the letter D does not say "duh" for example)

The full "Relearning to Read: For Parents" course is coming soon! This course will be packed with videos, information and hands on activities for parents to teach and support their student at home in the same way that a teacher would at school. Be sure to subscribe, so you can be the first to hear about the upcoming course offerings!

Parent & Teacher Partnership

We need to break down the barrier between parents and teachers. The end goal for us all is the same: Help kids be successful so that they can feel confident and become well -rounded adults. The teacher nor the parent can do it all, but if we understand a bit about each other and the important steps we are taking to help students, we can create and environment where kids are eager to learn and grow!
